about

This was the third free compilation CD from Topplers released in 2009. It was the first properly manufactured CD with a printed, fold-out sleeve.

Rather than follow the same path as the previous See Dees this compilation features old tracks by bands who were currently involved with Topplers. There is a strong emphasis on Swell Maps related music as both Jowe Head and Phones Sportsmen were releasing their new music on Topplers at the time and Phones had just uncovered some of his old cassettes of early versions of Swell Maps. He also had an exclusive unreleased Nikki Sudden track and a brand new collaboration that he and Jowe Head had recently recorded.
Steve Treatment is featured with a terrific track that would have been on his first album if it had ever been released. The Knockouts provided a version of Read About Seymour by their previous incarnation Thrilled Skinny. The Cult Figures had not long released their 1980 live recordings on Topplers and the beautiful ballad 'Battleship Grey' is the chosen track here. The audience, at The Cedar Club Birmingham, were there to see GBH and didn't appreciate the beauty of the Cult Figures craft!!!
Nyah Fearties are Scotland's hidden gem. Their slap-dash 'folk-punk' earned them a legion of fans in the late eighties and nineties. The NoMen are represented by their earlier incarnation 'The Yes Men' and the band who gave the record label it's name are also here with a 1979 recording of Radio Six. Allan, who runs Topplers, has his 'almost a hit' Walking Back From Kennys and Paul Groovy is represented by his classic 7" single 'Andy Watch Out'.

We can't remember why Unit 4, an all girl band from Belgium, are on the compilation but it's probably because it is fucking brilliant !
